Goal #3: Increase the Food Environment Index by 1
Baseline: 7.2 (2017 County Health Rankings)

  • Partner with U of I Extension to support Breakfast After the Bell Grant activities
  • Work with U of I Extension to evaluate and promote healthy food environments at local food pantries and food retailers
  • Support community gardens, produce/garden shares, and farmers’ markets
  • Work with SNAP-Ed and EFNEP to teach health & nutrition curriculums in classrooms and afterschool programs in qualifying grade levels and schools
  • Develop Healthy Restaurant/Healthy Food Retailer guidelines for easy consumer identification, creating HCC “seal of approval”
